The Journey Through Perimenopause and Menopause: Finding Our Way Back to Ourselves…

Perimenopause and Menopause are more than physical transitions. For many women, they bring a profound emotional and psychological shift, challenging their sense of identity, confidence and connection with themselves.

Changes in mood, sleep, energy and concentration can leave women feeling unfamiliar to themselves. Old coping strategies may no longer work, and emotions that have long been pushed aside may begin to surface. Beneath these changes, there may be questions about identity, relationships, loss and the expectations women have carried for much of their lives.

Therapeutic work can offer a space to explore these experiences with compassion rather than judgement. It allows women to acknowledge their struggles, grieve what feels different and begin to understand what they need in this new chapter of life.

For many, this transition also brings an opportunity to reconsider long standing patterns of putting others first, overgiving and feeling responsible for everyone else's wellbeing. It can be a time to explore boundaries, reconnect with personal needs and recognise that asking for support is not a weakness.

The work is not necessarily about returning to the woman we were before. It is about meeting the woman we are becoming, with greater understanding, acceptance and kindness. Perhaps the most important realisation we can come to is that we don’t have to keep holding everything together. Allowing ourselves to feel our pain, to express our fears and to grieve the version of ourselves we once knew.
